Since July of this year, Emergent Legal has been representing Ukrainian data analytics company Stella Systems, LLC in litigation with its former customer, MedeAnalytics, Inc., over MedeAnalytics' breach of the parties' longstanding contract and covert solicitation of Stella's employees. In late September, MedeAnalytics, represented by Keker & Van Nest LLP, suddenly brought a motion for a temporary restraining order and preliminary injunction -- filing 700 pages of briefing and supporting declarations on just two days' notice. The motion essentially sought to shut Stella down, seeking return of all the computers it relies on to run its business on the eve of an early settlement conference.
Working with our cocounsel at Gaw Poe LLP and our client, Emergent fought off the temporary restraining order at oral argument and then, after full briefing and a second oral argument, defeated the motion for a preliminary injunction. The court's opinion, issued yesterday afternoon, is linked here. Emergent founding partner Christopher Wimmer argued both hearings.
We're grateful for the opportunity to protect Stella's business and the ongoing collaboration with our friends at Gaw Poe and Stella. To find out more about how we can help you, contact us.
